Grandmotherhood

Most of you know I have been waiting for years to become a Grandma, but neither of my children were co-operating with my plan!

My courageous daughter Jessica has finally made it happen and she has evolved into an incredible mother.

Things are a lot different than when I brought her into the world 33 years ago, when the internet was in its infancy and we made choices based on what our mothers and friends had passed on from other women they knew.

Jess spent countless hours researching online and decided to bring her baby into the world in a birthing pool with midwives and a doula, here in Costa Rica.

It was an incredible experience, to be there with her and for her and watch my precious little granddaughter being born. The moment of joy when the midwife said: Jess, your daughter is out and swimming – reach between your legs and pick her up & hug her. And when she asked me to cut the umbilical cord an hour later so Tigana Sophia fully started life as a separate little being, Tig became the Love of my Life! But the most amazing thing about becoming a grandparent is that the very kids you made so many mistakes on – grow up and honor you by trusting you with their babies…

Could there be a greater grace?
